Debra Walker
Artist Background
Debra Walker has been doing her art in San Francisco since the early 1980s. She has lived in one of the oldest artist buildings in San Francisco since then.
Her work depicting the urban landscape and narrative led her into civic engagement and then politics. Walker does work in the film industry, in fabrication and prototyping and in her studio creating paintings and digital paintings. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally.
She has been involved in local, state and national politics. She has served on several city commissions and is currently on the San Francisco Arts Commission.
Artist Statement
My work is a narrative of life. I look to capture all of the energy, emotion and visuals of a. moment in time and push the medium I am using to translate that into a painting. I am doing many large scale digital pieces — pieces that fill walls and ceilings so that you are actually in them.
