Marti McKee
Artist Background
Marti McKee is a native San Franciscan who came into the art world later in life. For many years she focused on figurative mono prints, drawings and etchings that represent mysterious stirrings from the unconscious.
With the dramatic shift in the political climate, she has changes focus by relearning silk screen printing to be able to make political posters. The posters are intended to be a clear, strong narrative in response to the attempt at an authoritarian takeover.
Each poster incorporates original artworks; drawing, etching or linocut. Marti gives her posters away at marches, demonstrations and rallies.
Artist Statement
My art, I never intellectualize it, it is truly about feelings. It’s a process of letting the imagery come out tyhrough feeling and technique. I’m not trying to exprss a particular idea, a thought or feeling, but just let the imagery come out. It is just being with myself and using these tools to express my feelings.
