Now it seems to me that eye and the hand can work in harmony in such wonderful ways that those liquid dreams and mental landscapes can be captured in unique significant moments on surfaces like canvas, paper and digital tablets. The essence of the act of painting can feel the same way sometimes, revealing an almost unreal dimension of color, patterns and detail. The Dreamscape paintings in this series are a part of the exploration of imagination, introspection and then expansion into explorations of mental and physical landscapes on canvas. The work is created in the outdoor studio, that allows for connection to nature and exposure to the changes in the weather of Northern California. The Landscape paintings in this series are from travels and journeys to places both familiar and new. I find the best way to remember a space or setting is to spend the time drawing and painting whether it is on sight or through a digital sketchbook. This serves me far better than the endless scroll of photos from a vacation trip.

Artist Statement
From the eyes and mind of an artist and an architect, these are my current musings about the art of painting and the theme of Landscape and Dreamscape: I have two main loves in the creative arena. One is the design of spaces and landscapes in the field of Architecture. The other is the design of spaces and landscapes in the field of Painting and Art. Architecture feels connected to a place when you see it as authentic. The true sense of place adds to the dimensions of the architectural practice. How about the sense of place in Art? What we call Art, or in this case what I call painting, is connected to the mind and it allows for the full range of sensations and feelings from “real to the touch authentic” of Landscapes to the scented and spiced layers of Dreamscapes.
