Showcasing provocative and visually striking works from four Bay Area artists and activists, this exhibition highlights the current political zeitgeist and details how art and specifically screen-printed posters have historically fueled social change. The power of the message and this particular medium continues to be an important tool in the fight to save our Democracy.
Artists Art Hazelwood, Marti McKee, Xavier Viramontes and Debra Walker use their art and inspiration to address pivotal moments in history including civil rights, anti-war, labor, feminist, LGBTQ+ and environmental movements. The exhibit emphasizes silkscreen as a medium of resistance: bold, repeatable, and built for the streets. “Silkscreen posters are the original viral media,” says curator and artist Marti McKee. “These posters are created to provoke, inspire, and mobilize.”
All are welcomed to this free event.
